Remembering Maltby - The Book - How it Began

Remembering Maltby - The Book - How it Began

                                                                 View over Maltby

A book which tells the history of a place and its people is nothing new.
Since man first used language, signed, body or verbal, we have told each other stories and recounted tales . We have taught our children by recalling events and images from our own past and that of the people around us. They in turn have passed on their knowledge, down through the generations.

Today we have almost instant information at our fingertips from across the Earth and out into space. Sometimes it seems that we know of a place thousands of miles away than we do of our own home town.
Any historian knows that for us to progress and develop we need to have an understanding of the past so that we can learn for the future. What better way to record history than stories from the people themselves through telling of first hand experiences and anecdotes. I hope that this is what will be achieved by this book and that our children and grandchildren and theirs in the future can benefit from our memories.

A small idea to produce a collection of memories and images has grown into a brilliant and enjoyable project. Almost 2,200 people have supported this on the Remembering Maltby FaceBook page with more people showing interest daily. The enthusiasm that has been shown by the people of Maltby -past and present - to recall and recount their memories is amazing. Many of us are being reminded of things that we have almost forgotten and the pleasure in that is good too.

To you all I am very grateful as this book could not have been made without you.
